Biocon Q2 results: net profit halves to Rs 41 crore as revenue rises 2%; here's why

Biocon Q2 results: the biopharma company reported consolidated net profit of Rs 41 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2026 (Q2 FY27), down 52% from Rs 85 crore a year earlier. Revenue from operations rose 2% to Rs 4,389 crore, according to the press release Biocon filed with the exchanges on November 4, 2026.

Biocon Q2 results: key numbers

Revenue from operations4,3894,296+2%
Biopharma revenue3,5833,422+5%
Services revenue833911-9%

Net profit (reported)4185-52%

EBITDA is earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, a measure of operating earnings. Net profit before exceptional items was Rs 44 crore against Rs 92 crore. Exceptional items were a charge of Rs 7 crore, compared with Rs 12 crore a year earlier.

Why Biocon’s profit fell

Revenue grew but costs and other lines moved the wrong way. EBITDA fell 7% and the margin slipped to 20% from 22%. Other income dropped 63% to Rs 34 crore from Rs 93 crore. Profit before tax (before exceptional items) fell 66% to Rs 62 crore. Services revenue, which includes the Syngene research business, fell 9% year on year, though it rose 13% from the previous quarter.

Interest cost declined 12% to Rs 240 crore, which the company linked to steps taken to strengthen its balance sheet.

Biosimilars and generics

Biosimilars revenue rose 3% to Rs 2,809 crore and generics revenue rose 10% to Rs 774 crore. Biocon also said it secured a 10-year biosimilar Pertuzumab partnership in Brazil valued at about USD 400 million, and reached a patent settlement with Genentech that gives it the earliest licensed launch dates for the drug in Europe, the UK, the US and other markets.

Managing Director Shreehas Tambe said the company was laying the foundation for a stronger second half of FY27.

What to watch next

In our view, the Pertuzumab launches and the second insulin fill-finish line in Malaysia are the items to track in the coming quarters. For other earnings coverage see our results news section.
