The EBITDA margin widened to 12.1% from 9.4%, an increase of 270 basis points. A basis point is one hundredth of a percentage point. For the first half (H1 FY27), revenue rose 18.9% to Rs 10,331 crore and PAT rose 46.7% to Rs 794 crore.

Why Exide’s profit rose

The company said demand was healthy, helped by GST 2.0 reforms, a lower base and stronger execution of its One Exide operating model. Cost-saving steps, selective price increases and higher volumes lifted the margin. Input costs were still elevated year on year because of prolonged geopolitical challenges, and a weaker rupee stopped it from fully benefiting from softer lead and antimony prices.

By segment, the automotive OEM business grew over 25% year on year for the fourth straight quarter. Replacement batteries for two- and four-wheelers grew at double digits, and home inverters and solar grew over 20%.

Lithium-ion cell plant and other updates

Exide put another Rs 550 crore of equity into Exide Energy Solutions between April and October 2026, taking its total investment there to Rs 5,352 crore. The subsidiary commissioned a 6 GWh lithium-ion cell gigafactory in Bengaluru on September 23, 2026. Exide describes its liquidity as robust, with zero debt.

Separately, the board approved changing its registrar and share transfer agent from MUFG Intime India to Maheshwari Datamatics.

What to watch next

In our view, investors will follow how the gigafactory ramps up and whether margins hold as input costs move. See more in our results news section.
