Why Wockhardt’s profit fell despite higher revenue
The company points to expenses it incurred before the launch of Zaynich, an antibiotic. R&D spending was Rs 29 crore, or 3.0% of sales, against Rs 34 crore a year earlier.
Revenue growth came mostly from biotech and emerging markets. Biotech operations earned Rs 252 crore, up 68%. Emerging market revenue rose 52% to Rs 310 crore, driven by insulin. India branded business grew 8% to Rs 146 crore.
Zaynich and other product updates
The release says the US FDA approved Zaynich on 29 May for complicated urinary tract infections, and that India’s drug regulator approved it for manufacturing and marketing on 25 August 2026. It adds that the European regulator’s review is progressing.
What to watch next
In our view, the Zaynich launch costs and the pace of emerging-market insulin sales will decide margins in the coming quarters. See more in our results coverage.
