Why two sets of numbers differ

The statutory figures compare the merged company with the pre-merger Aster business of last year, so revenue appears to more than double. The company’s press release instead says revenue grew 19% to Rs 2,829 crore and normalised profit after tax rose 34% to Rs 281 crore. Normalised profit leaves out merger-related costs. Where figures differ, we have used the exchange filing for the table and the company’s own wording for its growth rates.

Why profit rose

Per a news report of the company’s commentary, EBITDA was Rs 664 crore against Rs 250 crore, with margin of 23.5%. Management attributed this to higher patient footfall, more complex procedures and a favourable payor mix. Patient volumes grew 12% in the quarter. The company said its newer hospitals, including Kasargod and Nagercoil, grew 61%.

One-time items

The filing shows Rs 18.95 crore of merger-related professional fees and other costs in Q2, shown as an exceptional item. For the six months to September, these costs were Rs 133.33 crore.

What to watch next

Executive Chairman Dr Azad Moopen said the company completed its first 100 days as a combined entity and is progressing the Aster Trivandrum project towards commissioning. Follow more hospital earnings in our results news section.

Frequently asked questions
