By business, hospital revenue grew 18.6% to Rs 2,340 crore, while hospital PAT eased to Rs 284 crore from Rs 287 crore. Diagnostics (Agilus) gross revenue rose 12.2% to Rs 448 crore and its PAT rose 15.8% to Rs 68 crore.
Why Fortis profit fell despite higher revenue
Profit before tax and one-off items rose by Rs 27 crore. Two things offset that. First, the exceptional gain, mainly from reversing an earlier impairment in an associate company, shrank to Rs 3 crore from Rs 24 crore. Second, in our reading of the figures, profit before tax including the one-off gain was slightly higher than a year ago, so a larger tax or other charge also weighed on PAT. The press release does not break this down.
Hospital growth came from both price and volume. Average revenue per inpatient (ARPP) rose about 7% to Rs 2.10 lakh, and occupied beds rose about 9%. Occupancy was 72%, against 71% a year earlier.
Fortis debt and expansion
Net debt stood at Rs 2,188 crore on September 30, 2026, or 0.87 times annualised Q2 EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation), compared with 0.96 times a year earlier.
Fortis recently bought the 110-bed Suguna Hospital in Bengaluru, including its land and building. It also signed agreements to provide healthcare services to a planned 400-plus bed hospital in Ashok Vihar, New Delhi, expected to start operating in three to four years.
What to watch next
MD and CEO Dr Ashutosh Raghuvanshi said the company will keep strengthening its presence in key markets. Fortis says it is looking at acquisitions and new hospitals in Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad, and in some Tier 2 cities in central India. Watch margins as new beds ramp up.
