For the first half (H1 FY27), standalone net profit was Rs 32,522 crore, up 82% from Rs 17,872 crore. The company calls this its highest-ever half-year profit.
Why ONGC’s profit rose
The filing points to much higher prices. ONGC realised $92.33 a barrel on crude from its nominated fields, against $67.34 a year earlier, a 37.1% rise. In rupee terms the jump was 50.2%. The price for gas from new wells rose 22.5% to $10.24 per mmbtu.
Output did not drive the gain. Standalone crude production slipped to 4.437 million tonnes from 4.630 million tonnes, and standalone gas output eased to 4.839 billion cubic metres from 4.918. ONGC blamed reservoir problems in the KG-98/2 block off the east coast, monsoon disruption, delays in two pipeline replacement projects and weaker demand from some onshore gas buyers.
The press release does not list any exceptional items for the quarter.
ONGC dividend: amount and record date
The board approved an interim dividend of 160% on the Rs 5 face value, or Rs 8 per share. The total payout is Rs 10,064 crore, which ONGC says is its largest single dividend instalment. Shareholders on the company’s register on the record date, November 12, 2026, are eligible. The filing does not give a payment date.
What to watch next
- Production: whether output recovers once the delayed pipeline projects are complete. ONGC has brought in bp as a technical service provider for its Western Offshore fields.
- New projects: two Western Offshore development projects worth about Rs 11,800 crore were awarded, plus a pipeline replacement project costing over Rs 4,300 crore.
- Discoveries: two onshore finds were notified in the quarter, Amraghat-1 in Assam and Vadatal-48 in the Cambay basin.
In our view, the profit growth rests mainly on oil prices, so the next quarters will depend on where crude realisations settle. See more results news for other Q2 FY27 earnings.
