Why Cummins India profit fell
Managing Director Adegbile Adewunmi said commodity and freight inflation, along with product mix, hurt margins. He said demand stayed healthy, helped by data centres, manufacturing, realty and distribution. He expects the benefit of price increases to come through gradually.
The table shows the pressure. Material costs rose about 17%, much faster than sales. Other income was also lower. As a result, the net profit margin on sales dropped to 14.4%, the press release said.
One-time items
There were no exceptional items in Q2 FY27 or Q2 FY26. The first half of last year included a Rs 44.15 crore gain on the sale of a subsidiary. That gain makes the half-year comparison look weaker than the quarterly one.
CNBC-TV18 reported that the shares fell as much as 14% on November 5 after the results missed analyst estimates.
What to watch next
The company expects demand to stay steady, but flagged geopolitical uncertainty, inflation and commodity price swings. In our view, the key test is whether price increases restore margins in the coming quarters. More earnings stories are in our results news section.
