Why Astral’s profit fell despite revenue growth
Sales grew in both businesses, but costs rose faster than prices. In plumbing, revenue grew 25% to Rs 1,398.3 crore and volumes rose 19.1% to 72,934 tonnes. Polymer prices climbed from mid-July, and Astral says it passed the full increase on to customers only in Q3. The plumbing EBITDA margin dropped to 16.3% from 19%.
The paints and adhesives business grew revenue 28.6% to Rs 590 crore, yet its EBITDA fell 19.2% to Rs 44.7 crore. The company cites higher raw material costs, linked to geopolitical pressure, that it could only pass on with a delay.
The press release does not mention any exceptional items.
