Why growth was uneven
Net profit and renewal premium rose, but first-year premium income, which signals new sales, declined. For the six months to September 30, 2026, standalone profit after tax was Rs 25,568 crore, up 21.52%. Group premium income grew 19.62% to Rs 1,13,594 crore.
LIC’s value of new business (VNB) rose 33.95% to Rs 6,846 crore in H1 FY27, and the VNB margin improved to 22.3% from 17.6%. Individual APE was nearly flat at Rs 17,224 crore.
Market share and balance sheet
Its first-year premium market share was 58.77% in H1 FY27, from 59.41% a year earlier. Solvency improved to 2.35 from 2.13, and assets under management reached Rs 59,60,941 crore. Indian Embedded Value fell 1.95% to Rs 7,97,378 crore.
What to watch next
In our view, new-business premium and persistency are worth tracking, since profit growth is running ahead of first-year premium. LIC also named Naga Nalini Kalluri chief compliance officer from November 6, 2026. See more results news.
