What drove the profit

Bajaj Finserv is a holding company, so its result depends on its subsidiaries. As reported by CNBC-TV18:

  • Bajaj Finance: consolidated profit after tax rose 29% to Rs 6,367 crore from Rs 4,948 crore. The lender added 4.42 million customers and booked 13.45 million new loans in the quarter. Net interest income grew 23.6% to Rs 13,335 crore, and assets under management rose 26% to Rs 5.84 lakh crore.
  • Bajaj Housing Finance: profit after tax up 18%.
  • Bajaj General Insurance: gross written premium (the premium written before payouts) rose 10% to Rs 7,056 crore. Excluding crop and government health business, which swing with large tenders, growth was 21%.
  • Bajaj Life Insurance: value of new business, a measure of the profit expected from policies sold in the period, rose 40% to Rs 512 crore from Rs 367 crore.
  • Bajaj Financial Securities: profit up 36%.

In the first half, Bajaj General’s profit fell to Rs 898 crore from Rs 1,177 crore, so not every business grew.

What to watch next

In our view, the next signals are whether Bajaj Finance keeps adding loans at this pace and whether the general insurer’s premium growth stays above the headline rate once large government tenders are excluded. For other quarterly numbers, see our results news.
